This is your invitation to study the cultures in the history of the western world through their original works, especially their art, but also through short original document studies, hands on activities and art projects and mini lectures.

You can learn a lot about what a culture values through their art, and it’s such an accessible way to join the Great Conversation!

This course has four 6-week units plus 2 weeks after that to wrap up the ideas.  The units are:

1. Greeks and Romans
2. Middle Ages
3. Renaissance
4. Modern

geared towards ages 11-17

Each unit includes:

Art Document Studies

Mini-Lectures (full of stories and history and big ideas)

Text Document Studies (short excerpts from original works from the time period)

Introduction to Culture through Activities

Writing Projects

Mini-Debates

Copycat Art

Art Showcase

Activities, like simulations and tableaus

What homework is expected from the students?

There will only be one assignment per week.  Assignments include things like an art project, an art document study, a short writing assignment or other assignments.  Homework for this class will usually take about an hour of the student’s time outside of class.  

What other supplies will I need to provide?

There will be some art supplies for each unit that you’ll need to provide.  I’ll send supply lists with each unit so you can prepare. 

What is your refund policy?

If you drop out of the class before August 1st, you will get a refund minus $60.  No refunds after August 1st.
